Step Free Access Petition for Bushey Station
Commuters need to climb a large number of steps for each platform, as there are no lifts.
Your Lib Dem team are excited to announce that funding has been awarded for a feasibility study and step free access improvements at Bushey station primarily for disabled passengers. If successful, this study will enable Bushey station to join the ‘Access for All’ programme for significant upgrades.
It's really positive we got the funding but this is only the first stage. We now need you to act.
The funding is only the first step, and Watford Liberal Democrats want to keep the pressure on so the study is not a token effort by the Government.
STEP UP FOR STEP FREE ACCESS
“I the undersigned, ask the Department of Transport to provide enhancements to Bushey station following the feasibility study. Namely, implementing step free access, and that once the study is undertaken, full funding be made available.”
The history:
In April 2022, Mayor Taylor, Councillor Ian Stotesbury, and Oxhey ward Councillors submitted a business case to Network Rail for accessibility enhancements. Despite delays, their persistence has led to Bushey being selected for the feasibility study. Lib Dem Councillors Kennedy Rodrigues and Karen Clarke-Taylor are also involved in other initiatives at Bushey station, including forming a Friends of Bushey Station group, chaired by Councillor Kennedy Rodrigues, and collaborating with West Midlands Rail and Transport for London on station improvements.
Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Lib Dem Candidate for MP said:
“Ensuring access to public transport is vital for reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion. We are so pleased with this decision and urge a prompt start to the study and on its conclusion that all the required funding is provided for a successful outcome for step-free access at Bushey station".
