CCTV cameras installed to help Nascot residents feel safer
Residents and councillors are delighted to see a long-awaited CCTV security system installed in a Nascot subway.
Cameras have been installed inside and at the entrances of the underpass, as well as along the length of Bridal Path, which connects Watford Junction station with Church Road.
The camera will capture footage from both directions in the underpass and capture images of the shopping parade on St Albans Road.
Siobhan Garibaldi, who lives nearby, said having the CCTV cameras installed is very reassuring.
She said: “I’ve been living near the subway for many years and always felt uncomfortable after dark. A few instances of ASB make you feel fearful about what could happen to you if you bumped into the wrong person.
“The new CCTV, better lighting, and refurbishment of the subway have made a big difference, it’s brought a feeling of greater safety and made us feel proud of the area again.”
Nascot Liberal Democrat Councillor, Mark Hofman said he hopes the installation will help residents feel safer.
He said: “Nascot councillors know how important this installation is to local residents in deterring crime and ASB, so I’m delighted it’s finally here.
“The full refurbishment of the subway and installation of the CCTV system was something that many residents wanted to see happen ASAP, and that’s why we made it one of our priorities.
“The Church Road subway and the Bridal Path are high footfall areas that serve the Nascot community, Watford Junction railway station and the local shops. We hope that brighter, cleaner streets and the reassurance of CCTV in the area will help everyone feel even more confident.”
