Lib Dems respond as ticket office consultation goes live
Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Watford Ian Stotesbury has completed the consultation on ticket office closures and is encouraging others to do so.
The government and train operating companies recently announced that ticket offices across the country will be closing. A consultation is currently underway which closes on Wednesday 26 July 2023.
Watford residents will be most affected by changes at Watford Junction station. At that station, the ticket office will be closing to be replaced by a customer service "hub". Cllr Ian Stotesbury is worried that this is just the first step to removing ticket support completely.
Commenting on the changes, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Watford Cllr Ian Stotesbury said:
"Ticket offices are vital services, particularly for those who are vulnerable, have a disability or are older. Closing them across the country is a short sighted move by the government and will affect many residents and visitors to Watford.
"The government needs to rethink their plans. I hope that as many people as possible respond to the consultation to send the government a message and stand up for vulnerable people who still need ticket office support."
