Police meeting update
Nascot Councillors attended a community police meeting at Watford Police station to discuss community safety issues with law enforcement officers on Friday.
When out talking with Nascot residents and meeting with residents groups you raised with us safety issues including burglaries, car crime, attempted car thefts, speeding, abandoned vehicles, anti-social behaviour, graffiti, cyclists cycling on the pavement and assaults.
These issues and more were discussed with PC David Gunn, the community support officer who leads on policing the Nascot area. PC Gunn is urging officers to step up their presence in the area and proactive action is planned to deal with speeding on key roads around the ward.
Following the meeting, Nascot Councillor Mark Watkin, said: "We’re committed to working with partners across the ward to ensure Nascot is a safe place, and I’ve been speaking to people in the community to reassure them of the steps we are taking to ensure that.
“Please do continue to raise community safety issues with us, we meet regularly with police officers to discuss our priorities, with your support we can continue to make Nascot an even better place to live.
“Ultimately though, to tackle these issues effectively, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire must hire more officers to tackle crime effectively in Watford.
“The number of police officers leaving the force in Hertfordshire is increasing. The number of new officers recruited is below target. The government’s own figures show that not a single officer has been hired using the money from the big increase in council tax bills introduced by the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner. We deserve better than this.”
